Finally the much waited for flood prevention works at the Carysfort/Marettimo Stream,  have begun and the emergency works for Glasthule and Sandycove are nearly complete. Richard Boyd Barrett, had tabled motions at council level on both of these issues.

The emergency works for  Glasthule and Sandycove will certainly come as a relief to the residents and traders affected by flooding but they are not entirely satisfactory as it may result in untreated waste water in Scotsmans Bay.  This is obviously preferable to flooding in homes and businesses.  However, a much bigger job that repairs and upgrades the water infrastructure is needed.

The OPW has also recently allocated €43,000 to the council for flood prevention works at the  Packenham Road culvert in Monkstown.
