In June the council unanimously supported a motion, put forward by Cllr Melisa Halpin, to facilitate passenger boat trips to Dalkey Island.   Council Management, however, continue to insist that the landing
jetty on the island and the steps at Coliemore Harbour are unsafe and not suitable for commercial boat trips.  They refuse to furnish local man,  Ken Cunningham, with the necessary documentation to allow him to run a passenger boat service legitimately.

Dalkey Island is a wonderful amenity and tourist attraction.  A passenger boat service that could be widely publicised would bring much needed visitors to the area.  It is absolutely ludicrous that Ken Cunningham, who has everything required to get a licence to run these trips, apart from the council’s signature, is unable to do so because the Council will not do the necessary work to make Dalkey Island a visitor attraction.

We will be continuing to support Ken in his efforts to establish the service.
