Since the Shanganagh Community Beach Gardens opened last year it has proved to be a great success. There are dozens of local residents and community groups now involved and coming together in a communal spirit to grow their own vegetables. As the work on the sewage treatment plant draws to a close the community gardens are set to double in size.

The success of the gardens has demonstrated a need for such projects elsewhere in the County and how much the community can come together productively when they are given the opportunity. With the support of People Before Profit residents in  Emmet
Square, Blackrock, have been fighting to get a community garden for their area. The council has recently committed itself to supporting initiatives for community gardens and allotments across the county.

If you are interested in getting a community garden set up contact the Council Parks Department at 2047275.
